OneMoreTune meets The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock
February 8, 2009
The revolutionary roots of the band’s name, their Japanese tour, finding the first record deal, how and why the Ballroom of Romance got started 7 years ago, how the Dublin music scene has recently changed.
Irish folk trad is based on a single note (…) so I saw a great potential for crossover with a sort of noise rock and shoegazing a lot of noisy guitar rock.
Who: The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock (Dublin)
Latest record: The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock (Transduction Records, 2008)
Online: myspace.com/thespookofthethirteenthlock and thirteenthlock.net
Our favourite video: the spook of the thirteenth lock live at road records
Where we met: lower deck (before the january ballroom of romance - allen is the organiser of this cool montly event)
Why we like them: for their peculiar sound and their admirable ability to merge traditional Irish music and a noise (sometimes even metal) attitude. plus, their melodies are so great to sing along!
Behind the scenes: this is one of the few out-door interviews that we’ve done so far. it was filmed just outside the lower deck (in portobello square), by the gran canal. probably in the background you won’t see much more than the heavy friday night traffic, however we were standing just a couple of metres away from the water and from some nice swans. the most romantic spot for our interviews so far.
