Becoming a singer-songwriter, the heyday of “the singer-songwriting nights” and what they meant for Gemma Hayes, a journey through the story of her three CDs, The Hollow of Morning and plans for a piano album.

It was a whole group of singer-songwriters and there was something special, something magical going on and we all knew it. We were all in love with music, we all sort of found each other, we would play until 5 in the morning

Who: Gemma Hayes (Tipperary, Ireland)
Latest record: The Hollow of Morning
Online: gemmahayes.com and myspace.com/gemmahayes
Our favourite video: Hanging Around
Where we met: Whelans
Why we like her: because, as NME wrote in 2002, she is classy and classic
Behind the scenes: At the beginning of her career, Gemma used to play at the International bar of Dublin, together with other musicians like Paddy Casey and Glen Hansard…ring a bell? :)
