OneMoreTune meets Conor Donovan (The Ruby Sessions)
September 19, 2008
The early days with Damien Rice, Glen Hansard and Paddy Casey, how the Ruby Sessions grew up and why was it different from the other nights in town, the very special line-up for the 9th birthday edition.
We’re really proud we are an institution in the dublin if not the irish music scene
Who: conor donovan from the ruby sessions
Online: myspace.com/rubysessionsand rubyworks.com
Our favourite ruby sessions video: una healy
Where we met: doyles pub
Why we like him: we definitely like the ruby sessions. there’s always a great atmosphere and a lot of time you get to see really cool bands in a very intimate set (only 70 people can be there). not only has conor been doing a great job with the ruby sessions, but he is also a talented musician who’s played with big names. for example, he is the one at the percussions on “o” and “9″, the two records by damien rice.
Behind the scenes: this interview was done the day before the ruby sessions’ 9th birthday. to help conor spread the world about the birthday we edited the video straight away and put it on YouTube the same night. we were so looking forward to being at the birthday ruby sessions (lisa hannigan, cathy davey, gavin glass and one day international were playing!). unfortunately we got some strange virus and while queuing we started to feel so bad that we had to leave..we’ll have to wait 12 more months to try again!
