OneMoreTune meets DeVotchka
June 1, 2008
The musicians behind then “Little Miss Sunshine” soundtrack tell how the movie matches their story, the relationship between music and cinema , the collaboration with Gogol Bordello, and the cultural influences on their music. …
I started the band, like I said, with just a dream, and an accordion player named Johnny
Who: DeVotchka (Denver, Colorado)
Latest record: A mad and faithful telling (Anti, 2008).
Online: devotchka.net and myspace.com/devotchkamusic
Our favourite video: Till the End of Time
Where we met: Crawdaddy
Why we like them: where to start? Their music is brilliant, we loved both the soundtrack they composed for Little Miss Sunshine and the movie itself, and you don’t happen to see often a violin, a sousaphone and a theremin on the same stage.
Behind the scenes: it turned out that the name DeVotchka (Russian for “girl”) has nothing to do with Jeanie, the only girl of the band, but has been chosen because, among other reasons as Nick explains (not in the video), “it’s a beautiful word”.
